General Knowledge (GK) Compulsory and Elective Courses

Council of Higher Education in Turkey (YÖK) updated teacher training and education undergraduate programs on 28.02.2017 as a result of reconsidering education programs in line with the changing needs and demands. As a result of this, reconstruction of lessons related to field education and professional teaching knowledge and focusing more on these lessons, extending teaching practices over period of time and realizing them in a more structured manner, making the teacher training undergraduate programs compatible with the curriculum put into practice by the Ministry of National Education (MEB) brought to the agenda as a necessity. In this context, the courses in teaching undergraduate programs consist of three groups: Professional Teaching Knowledge (MB), Field Education (AE) and General Knowledge (GK). Among the courses specified in the programs, General Knowledge courses take place at the rate of 15-20%.

The Community Service Practice course, which is one of the General Knowledge courses, has been updated as a common course in all programs.

General Knowledge courses are divided into two as compulsory and elective courses in the format determined by YÖK. Compulsory courses are Turkish Language 1, Foreign Language 1, Atatürk’s Principles and Revolution History 1, and Information Technologies in the fall semester and the Spring term has Turkish Language 2, Foreign Language 2, Ataturk's Principles and History of Revolution 2 courses.

General Knowledge elective courses start from the third semester of each program and take place in the General Knowledge elective course pool. Lessons are equivalent to each other across all programs.

In addition to 18 elective courses determined by YÖK, our faculty includes courses offered by departments and addressing different interests. For all faculty students, there are a total of 44 courses that are scheduled for different days and hours. Click to see the General Knowledge elective pool.

General Knowledge compulsory and elective courses are open to all students as faculty courses without discriminating between programs.
